I'm going with the theory that Daniel had a crappy used something (Peugeot? LOL) until he could afford something more reliable, OR that his grandfather gave him his parents' old vintage vehicle when Nick stopped driving.
I think Daniel's not the type to spend real $$ on a new car, unless it's something "socially responsible" as Cleo says. His disposable income probably goes toward books & artifacts instead of an onerous car payment.
