Corin Nemec in Near Fatal Boat Accident

Best wishes for a full recovery to Corin, who played Jonas Quinn on Stargate SG-1.

He's in Belize to film his crazy SyFy movie "Poseidon Rex", and the Belize Coat Guard boat ferrying him to location collided with a sinking barge! His femur broke in 3 places & he lost MASSIVE amounts of blood, but he's now still in the hospital waiting for his blood count to go back up after multiple transfusions and major surgery.

The circumstances of the accident point to gross negligence of boating safety by the Belizean Coast Guard ferrying him & his crew to location; Corin asked at the outset of the trip why there were no lifejackets provided to him and his crew PLUS the boat was going too fast when it collided PLUS the pilot didn't see the half-submerged barge. We'll probably know a bit more as the story develops.

Of course. I'd be just as concerned if it was the nurse in the background in the infirmary, or Dan Shea, or Airman Westerholm (Amanda Tapping's stand in, who appeared as one of the women in Hathor). A person's value is not determined by their billing!

I keep checking the Belize news site for follow-ups, but the story's no longer a headline (http://7newsbelize.com/index.php). Why don't they care that their Coast Guard failed so badly?

Because in small countries, in contrast to huge countries like our own, where things can easily get lost in the shuffle, many of these things are taken care of quietly and behind the scenes. If you are from a small government where every body knows everybody, often these things are taken care of quietly. Heads roll, procedures change, and life goes on without the public shaming and scrutiny. Everybody knows what happened, and it is often best not to dwell, so that no vendettas and feuds are started Of course in certain governments, this means that ugly things are swept under the rug to fester too. I am afraid I don't know enough about the government of Belize to know which is more likely to be the case. Gotta run (literally!).

Given that most Belizean crime is drug & gang-related, and that the country's main money-maker is tourism, I suspect there's rampant corruption in the upper ranks. So a cover-up isn't out of the question.
