are you vacationing in/visiting ottawa? if so, awesome! I'm currently feeling homesick for ottawa. I live there but just last week I moved away temporarily for a short-term job elsewhere. But i'll be back again often, as my hubby is still there. anyway, if you're there for vacation - enjoy!

Another Stargate fan in Ottawa? How cool! Campy is here for a couple of days on the way to her husband's school reunion in Ohio. They've created this opportunity so he can meet up with Charles Gordon(yes the journalist) and so she can meet up with Shakespherical and myself. We all (including Shakespherical's husband, but excluding Charles Gordon)had brunch this morning at the Cora's on Rideau. It was quite a lively meal, lol

BRUNCH WAS AWESOME. The food was great, the conversation was lively, and the husbands got along while we fangirled.

We should do a convention together. OMG

Also, Ottawa is gorgeous! Much more charming that Washington DC. So weird that the only security we saw at Parliament Hill was one rather ancient metal detector & x-ray machine for purses etc. Well, except passing by the American Embassy, which looks like a prison compound. DERP

Argh! What an ironic coincidence!

Am enjoying Ottawa a lot so far. But I gotta say, San Diego has a lot more panhandlers, street people, & pollution than Ottawa.

And you are missing them? That panhandler this morning I said good morning to and smiled and he was like "Hey, how's you doing?" I LOL'd because even he was being polite and I didn't give him a dime.

Yes well there are fewer people in the world who actually threaten us so we tend to be rather more relaxed about security...it'll come as nasty shock to the populace if that ever changes. Glad to hear you like it here. Hope you didn't get caught in that deluge this afternoon.

oh man, brunch at cora's... sounds wonderful! I'm glad to hear you guys are enjoying Ottawa! And even nicer that the hubbies are getting along well - they're more likely to be talked into coming back sometime, lol! :D and hey, maybe some day I'll actually get to meet some of you guys. it'd be cool to meet some fellow SG1 fan-folk in Ottawa.

ZOMGLOL Do we have panhandler stories!

On the way to the Metropolitain Brasserie tonight, a junkie asked for some change while scratching at hypodermic tracks on his arm. Real smooth, dude.

Back in San Diego, a panhandler asked us for money as we entered and later exited the grocery store, so Mr. Campy told him to get a job. Dude flipped a bird, Mr. C mocked him, then the guy started cussing up a loud blue streak in front of a mom & her toddler, so security asked him to leave. Which he did -- reluctantly, while still cursing.

Then there was the bum in a drug store one night (buying tiny bottles of booze) who made a pass at me & didn't know Mr. C had heard him. There were words exchanged. The dude, um, didn't get any booze that night because he got kicked out of the store.

Ha! We called the "deluge" 100% humidity. It was only sprinkles, no big deal.

I probably should've posted our itinerary sooner just in case others on my F-List live along our travel route.

The sad thing is that most homeless in Canada are mentally ill and self medicating. We have a free needle program here to help keep HIV rates from rising and there are places for them to sleep at night but so many of them are schizophrenics who are undiagnosed or unemployable. :( It makes me sad. One of my friend's husband ended up on the streets until one day he was found dead in an alley downtown. :( He was schizaophrenic and nothing she could have done would have changed that ending. And she tried everything.

Ottawa has shelters open in the summer? I was wondering why we didn't see any street people wrapped in sleeping bags on our way back from the restaurant tonight.

San Diego's street people population skyrocketed when the Mental Health Center closed due to budget cuts -- a lot of local businesses suddenly had problems with oddly-behaving folk in their stores. SDPD lets vagrants sleep in unofficial designated places downtown.

I'm just off Main St., so not too far from downtown. Right now my next scheduled trip home to Ottawa is in October, so alas it'll have to wait a bit. but sounds fun! I'll try to remember to borrow campy's idea to post my trips back on LJ :)
