campylobacter: WTF? (wtf)
[personal profile] campylobacter
Oh, LJ.

In [livejournal.com profile] lj_maintenance  they're all "Oops we changed some stuff haha too bad the site's been slow."

So someone asks WTF happened to my layout?

But no one on LJ's staff replies.

And then in [livejournal.com profile] news  they're all "LOL we changed ur nav bar and didn't tell you until we'd done it."

Also, spam account [livejournal.com profile] celimood  is still active, even though I'm hoping its abuse report count went up because I asked my F-List to report it.

If all my fandom friends weren't here on LJ, I'd be on WordPress.

People enable their navbars?

Also, thank you so much for the v-gift! :DD

I use my nav bar frequently -- it helps me do moderator stuff for [livejournal.com profile] daniel_vala. It's just so jarring when LJ changes a major user interface widget with no warning.

You're welcome! Enjoy your birthday week and stay safe. :D

HMM, maybe by ignoring them all this time, I've missed out on something rather useful.

It's certainly been a good one so far! I'm pretty excited for it to be tomorrow morning.

The nav bar shits me to no end. It is blue and fugly and none of the customise options are working for me at all. My layout is a nice dark orange & black, the blue clashes and yes I am a big asthetics whore, but I want my pretty back, dammit! (I was a chump and asked for help but no replies from LJ yet, not that I expected as much)

Also the banner for May, at first I thought, oh hell, a religious banner, but I have reconcilsed that it is ascended Daniel coming to comfort us all about Stargate's demise... :P

There are a lot of LJ members who are Not Happy with the new nav bar. I'm as yet neutral, but miffed that LJ pops these changes without alerting us what to expect.

The new gold header was the ONLY contestant in the Remixed poll that properly conveyed health & healing (http://remixed.livejournal.com/321784.html):
http://remixed.livejournal.com/332179.html
The rest were kinda cheesy or slightly morbid.

My navbar seems to have appeared in my layout colours, but then, I'm lazy and can't be bothered making my own layout so I just use one from the layouts that are available in the customize menu :)

Do you use a custom layout? That might be why your new navbar is showing up in an unhappy colour?

I don't actually mind the new navbar, it's easy to use, looks quite pretty, altho, a bit of warning might have been nice? I thought they'd fucked with my layout again *facepalm*

Ooh, your nav bar be stylin!

The only excuse I can think of that LJ admins don't let volunteers beta-test upcoming UI widgets is because they're afraid spammers would somehow exploit them. I resent how LJ users aren't treated as co-developers and active participants in LJ's growth, but as a commodity to sell to advertisers. :(

[livejournal.com profile] magnavox_23 uses a variant of Flexible Squares for her layout. There may be a way for her to tweak the nav menu so that it coordinates better with her palette.

Yes, mine is a custom layout. I tried customing the nav bar but the gradient options do nothing and the customize colour options screw up my layout. I hope they do fix this bug soon.

So if LJ is this much of a pain(and I believe me I agree) why would it be so tough to get everyone to migrate to Wordpress?

I already have a fandom account on WordPress:
http://campylobacter.wordpress.com/

The big deal in a mass-migration is basic human psychology:
some people would perceive it as difficult/complicated,
some would refuse because they don't like change, and
some aren't active enough in fandom to see the use in migrating.

Dreamwidth, which has more powerful features, has already fractured the Stargate fandom; the bulk of the slash communities & users have moved there, so it's harder to integrate all the genres into one happy, dysfunctional family where multi-shipping and mending the ancient Shipper Wars can happen easier.

Well I'm considering it...I was just browsing thru available themes. I noticed that what you've got posted there is exactly the same as you have posted to LJ...is that done with the 'importing from LJ' feature? So does that mean that I can take everything I've ever postd to LJ and import it directly into Wordpress?

OMG yes!

Dreamwidth has import modules for LiveJournal, InsaneJournal, & JournalFen.

WordPress has import modules for Blogger, Blogroll, Israblog, LiveJournal, Movable Type and TypePad, Posterous, Vox, WordPress, and Yahoo! 360.

Importing is pretty damned easy to do, and I do it to backup my LJ account just in case something horrible happens to LiveJournal.

Been reading the TOS...just what is the definition of pornographic...and does that mean you aren't posting any of your DV work there?.

As far as I know, all my Adult fan fiction imported to WordPress.
http://campylobacter.wordpress.com/tag/nc-17/

WP doesn't define "pornographic", so I assume it's just there to cover their asses in case someone files a report or a bunch of sleazy porno sites use WP to promote their hardcore videos.

well as I said my purpose for WP is a little more serious so I probably won't post any out and out adult stuff there.

Open Journal

Friend/de-Friend/Ban me = it's all good.

Fandom's more fun when you're an equal-opportunity pervert (multi-shipper). Set porn goggles to maximum!

Mostly Stargate SG-1 with an intermittent chance of SGA & The X-Files.

BEWARE: My LJ is NOT SAFE FOR WORK.
