OMG I'm in heaven! The most perfect explanation ever for the Sha'uri/Sha're name change that has driven fanfic writers crazy for over a decade, by tafkar, from Chapter 3 Part 2 of her alternate reality revision story One Dimension Removed.

Fanon so damned logical, it should be CANON:

“Colonel O’Neill’s report said your name was Sha’uri.”

“It was,” Sha’re said. “I changed it.”

“Why?” Sam asked.

“Shau’ri means ‘finding peace in Ra,’” Sha’re said.

Sam nodded. “That doesn’t sound like you.”

“Sha’re means ‘rebellion against Ra. It seemed more appropriate.”

I haven't had this much fun reading fanfic since "Iolokus 1". Can't wait to finish it! Its premise revolves around Daniel being captured to host Apophis, instead of Sha're to host Amaunet. Sha're joins SG-1, and there's (so far) Team awesomeness, yearning for Daniel, Sam/Sha're UST (if you're smutty like me and look for it), a cow-thing, Jack/Teal'c hurt/comfort, and Amazons who need sperm -- just in the first 3 chapters!

Sha're is strong and introspective, Sam is adorably nerdy, Janet is clever, Teal'c is unfailingly wise, and Jack does his brave, snarky thing. If the pilot had been written like this, I would've been a fan since the beginning, instead of waiting for the glorious Vala to add more Chick to Boy Fic.

Get your SG-1 crack on while waiting for the 3rd movie.

YAY! Thank you for this! I'm so glad you like it! You've given me a total warm and fuzzy feeling, reading this. (I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier - when you wrote this I was out in the desert with no Internet access. On the other hand, it gave me a LOT of on-the-ground information on living in a desert for the sequel, when Sha're visits Abydos.)

LOL I can't believe I never replied to this, either!

So... are you working on a sequel, or a cracky AU where SG-1 does Burning Man? ;D

A sequel, but boy howdy has RL gotten in the way. I...could go on and on about it, but instead I will just say that I am going to start enforcing work-life balance hard-core, and hopefully getting back to work on this sequel will be part of it.

I've now been to Burning Man twice! The thing is, dust storms aren't exactly what you'd expect. Nor is the way you start to think about water. Or how time becomes much more fluid when you don't have clocks. I think it will be useful.

Burning Man has always seemed like it'd be an other-worldly experience. If it had been logistically feasible, the franchise would probably have loved to shoot some alien planet settings in the Black Rock Desert instead of Vancouver.

Mostly Stargate SG-1 with an intermittent chance of SGA & The X-Files.
