Why You Should Read This:
I found this site a very long time ago, And it really was my major fav of J/D for a very long time. there are over 100 stories, each one very long, I’m not kidding when I say it could take a MONTH+ to read all the stories in the series, well I say series I mean EPIC.

Orrymain is like how Keira is to some people. You either love her fics or hate ‘em. There are even communities dedicated to bashing the poor woman and the dogs. Truthfully she’s not my cup of tea, but she has brought enjoyment to many and all praise to her for doing that.

This is what Stargate fans refer to when they say “Beagle fic”. It’s an AU where Jack quits the SGC to marry Daniel and raise 12 kids + 2 beagles + a bunch of other pets. They communicate telepathically and call each other “Babe” and “Angel”. Required reading is
the story where Jack sings “Rubber Ducky” and inserts one into Daniel while they’re in the bathtub. I am not making this up.

SCREEN GRAB OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN:

They see me trollin, they hatin...

BTW: My LJ allows anonymous comments. Anonymice are welcome to BRING IT. (Although the server seems to be screening all the anon comments left on my LJ for 2 months because they've ALL been spam. But that may be because it's blocking the specific IP address whence the spams originate.)

The rubber ducky one made me wet myself laughing and feel dirty at the same time. ESPECIALLLY funny is the fact that he fucks him with a duck dressed in academic clothing while the other duck is wearing a baseball cap. POST THOSE PICS we found! And folks, a parody fic is in the works. I have to spork her nonsense. WOOF?

There is no more that community, unfortunately. I think that "author" is one of the worst, I read one of her story and I was amazed at the bullshit she can write.

Yep, character assassination. I don't even recognize her Jack & Daniel; they're not the ones I see on my DVDs by a looong shot, not even the alien-hologram-doppelgangers in "Foothold".

I only read a couple of her stories. That was enough for me. Jack fucked Daniel with a rubber duck? Seriously? And he was singing "Rubby Ducky" while he was doing it? And I thought the one where he strewed rose petals all over the house and on the bed was bad. Or the one where he and Daniel were arguing and they stopped because it was upsetting those stupid dogs. Jesus.

Also, I believe the beaglefic community was deleted.

I linked to the "Rubber Duckies" story in the original post, but... just don't. There's not enough brain bleach in the universe. It's a disgrace to slash.

RIP Beaglefic community. Wish I'd been in the fandom to watch the drama while it was active...

It seems to me that your posting was entirely factual.

My own philosophy about those fics is of the "move the curser away from the fic title, and nobody needs the brain bleach" variety.

I had to send out for a whole new brain and start over after unsuspectingly reading one for the first time, though.

It was the way she turned Jack and Daniel into women of a particularly egregiously flowery and overly sentimental type who just happen to have active penises that disturbed me.

When I went to Bryn Mawr College (single sex, all women), we had the option of living and taking classes at Haverford College (at that time single sex, all men) a mile down the road. There was an active and well-respected Gay Alliance group in the bi-college community, well known for throwing the best parties on campus. There were quite a reasonable number of openly gay men and a smaller number who were bi (or who admitted to being so at that stage of their lives). While I was there one of the men was in the initial stages of seeking to become transgendered. Now some of those individuals fit some stereotypes, but none of them fit all of them, and most of them were pretty average guys.

What kind of alien device could Jack and Daniel have wandered into that would turn them from the Jack and Daniel that showed up on our screens, and turn them into sentimental aunties of the hearts and flowers sort?

*wibbles*

Maybe it's not so much the genderbending of Jack & Daniel's personalities (even though I do know some auntie types who act like that), but the infantilizing of their personalties and the oversimplification of their relationship. 10 seasons, 2 movies, plus the crossovers into SGA & SGU gave us mature, complex characters with layers to their relationship; reducing Jack & Daniel to domestic Ken dolls is DISTURBING and insulting.

Unless it's for crack or parody, of course. ;D

See, now that's the thing. The reason I got as far as I did with the horrid thing was at first I was convinced that it was all done in fun, but when it became clear that it was meant seriously...

Eeeeeewwwww! Just eeeeeewwwww!

At the point I'd run into the one and only one I'd read I'd only seen the feature film and a small fraction of the series (Secrets, Nemesis, and all of Seasons 4 and 1), but even if I'd only seen the feature film, I'd have known that their relationship was much more layered and nuanced than that!

And yes, I'm sure there are auntie types who act like that, but that's not Jack and Daniel. The real Jack and Daniel spend a fair amount of time sticking the knife in and twisting between quiet acts of enormous tact and consideration. The real Jack and Daniel disagree early and often and then turn as one to face the foe. It is the complexity and ever-shifting nature of both the tension and the bond between them that makes their relationship worth following.

I think what is really so disturbing is that the fics read like the puerile monodimensional wish-fulfillment laden first writing attempts of a young teen, but are cranked out year after year unchangingly (or so the synopses lead me to believe - as I said, I've only subjected myself to the one).

THIS. It's precisely this dynamic that make Jack & Daniel so compelling onscreen; when fanfic authors capture those fireworks in genfic, het, or slash, it's truly glorious.

puerile monodimensional wish-fulfillment laden first writing attempts of a young teen, but are cranked out year after year unchangingly
SO THIS. It's tragic that the stories just don't improve over time, but continue to pander to a naive audience that demands cardboard characterization and palaver. Lowest common denominator prevails. :(

When Orry got hold of them, that's when. I've never come across characterisations like hers. Just boggling, not unlike her behaviour at a Shanks con. She was utterly obsessed with him, to the point of barging her way into a seat she hadn't paid for, and stalking MS with such a single minded focus that she knocked a lady off her feet. A couple of girls had to deliberately head her off and block her from him.

Bashing characters and/or pairings doesn't make me happy, and reading character/'ship bashing makes me sad. I did a little Googling tonight after posting...

What Must Occur
"Though he had no love, like, or even tolerance for the crude and rude woman named Vala Mal Doran, Jack had to put aside his personal feelings and consider what was best for Earth's survival."
http://squidge.org/peja/cgi-bin/viewstory.php?sid=47384

She's also happy leaving rambling, alarmingly misogynistic reviews of Seasons 9 & 10:

Stargate Sg-1: Crusade
"Vala is the number one reason for the show's decline."
http://www.bukisa.com/articles/397638_stargate-sg-1-crusade

The Ties That Bind
"The problem is that watching Claudia Black as that vulgar tramp, Vala mal Doran is not adorable; no, it's disgusting."
http://www.bukisa.com/articles/420340_stargate-sg-1-the-ties-that-bind

Bad Guys
"Well, it's a show that includes both Ben Browder as the Jack clone, Cameron Mitchell, and Claudia Black as the tramp in SG clothing, Vala Mal Doran."
http://www.bukisa.com/articles/401283_stargate-sg-1-bad-guys

"Stargate SG-1: The Ark of Truth is a winner and comes highly recommended by somewho who hates the Vala character."
http://www.reviewstream.com/reviews/?p=39467

BIG SAD FACE. I love ALL the Stargate characters -- even Jonas. Woolsey, Kinsey & Maybourne, too. Antagonists are catalysts; without them, a story risks stagnation.

Whoa, that's nasty. Not unexpected, though. She certainly likes to make her opinion heard. People like her give fans a bad name. I think she likes stirring up the fandom, having people object to what she's writing. Makes her feel empowered or something, but it's not a good way to go.

I personally don't like Jonas, but I wouldn't blame the show's demise on him, not that it did, er, demise.

LOL, exactly like those wackjobs. At the con, there was a large group of us, reuniting from all over the world. We hadn't seen each other for a couple of years, and she plonked herself right in the middle of our group because that seat was directly centred on MS. Explosives wouldn't move her.

I'd never be sad for championing Vala and the boys. That's being a good fan!
