Here's my Stargate-centric visual guide based on traycer_'s definitions, using screen grabs/production stills from the episodes/movies. I probably am missing some eps, namely because I haven't seen all of Seasons 3 thru 8 yet, so feel free to point me in the direction of any relevant episodes & screen grabs that you think should be included.

Time Travel (usually travel to the past):

A solar flare intersecting a wormhole sends SG-1 back 30 years (2x21 "1969")

Alternate Timeline (what happens when you time-travel and change something):

Daniel, Sam & Teal'c in a dystopian future (4x16 "2010")


Dork, Nerd & Loser (8x19 "Moebius") [wallpaper by Del]


Spending 50 years in a time dilation bubble (10x20 "Unending")


Ba'al makes Qetesh his Queen for 50 years in "Stargate Continuum"

Alternate Reality (parallel universe):

Teal'c sports a battle pony in 1x02 "There But for the Grace of God"


Maj. Carter watches Dr. Carter say goodbye to Jack through the Quantum Mirror (3x06 "Point of View")

Alternate Universe (take your favorite characters and dump them into another genre):

Teal'c, PI (10x06 "200")

Alternate Universe (crossover to an established fandom):

Wizard of Oz/SG-1 crossover (10x06 "200")

I almost used the "Fargate" instead of the "Wizard of Oz" pic, but the latter resonates with the entire series, ever since Jack dropped the "not in Kansas anymore" reference in Season 1.

This is awesome! The only other possibility I can think of is Prophecy wherein Jonas was having visions of alternate timelines after Nirrti manipulated his DNA. That wasn't a result of time travel, but one of his visions came true because he interviened due to having the vision in the first place.

OMG, into what category would Jonas's mind-trip intervention fall? Alternate Reality or Timeline?

And after I got in bed last night, "Ripple Effect" suddenly came to mind. The alt!SG-1s would be from parallel universes, and therefore Alternate Realities, since it wasn't solar-flare-intersecting-a-wormhole, but a "convergence effect" (singularity fucks with a wormhole).

OI! I need to take a break from this and work on my fanfic deadlines for tomorrow.

I think it would count as an alternate timeline, because it was still the same characters in the same reality, but the timeline was changed due to Jonas' actions causing events to diverge. It is a tricky one to fit into an exact definition.

Vala is clearly pregnant and her sizeable caboose is balanced out by the most luscious breasts that I have seen in ages.

I've noticed CB's preggo bosom a time or 2. ;d Does anyone have the guts to write a story about Ba'al/Qetesh expecting a harcesis? Sounds like Ba'al's idea of a perfect host.

I'm not certain about the exact size of Teal'c's package, but I'll bet CJ enjoyed getting measured for that codpiece.

I love this! I love all the different variants of Time Travel, AU, and Parallel realities, they are always my favourite episodes :D

They probably re-painted some random Jaffa armor from a previous ep for the Tin Man costume, or at least re-used a mold.

Agreed on the wonderful variations on the AU/AR/AT tropes; it's why I prefer science fiction to the run-of-the-mill mainstream shows. Police procedurals, medical drama and reality TV don't hold my attention the way sci-fi does.

Wow! Thanks! I sometimes use dialup, and am tickled pink that you feel rewarded despite the download time. I took great pains to include image dimensions so that "jumping" page length effect wouldn't cause rendering or scrolling problems.
