More disgusting is that THEY DIDN"T TELL THE CAST AND CREW! They found out online! WTF is wrong with these people. So unprofessional. Fuck, even our local Loblaws gave its employees notice when they closed the store! And they suck as a company.
What bugs me is that they cancelled SGA for SGU...not that I hate SGU...we called it Battlegate around my house because it was dark. Problem was that it never felt like a Stargate show for me so I stopped watching early on. It didn't capture an audience because of its non-stargate feel...old fans that followed SGA BECAUSE of SG-1 didn't find what they were looking for in SGU. What is sad though is that it indicates that MGM has "dumped" the franchise. I really hope I'm reading that wrong because I fantasize about a SGA return and Joe's recent comment about "looking forward to playing John Sheppard again" gave me hope. I guess time will tell.
SGU is what got me back into Stargate, believe it or not. I'd stopped watching SGA around season 3-ish, and I never got back into it.
SGU let me start fresh, and I fell in love with the characters. The first season I found the eps a little hit or miss, but the back half of the first season has been pretty consistent as far as quality goes.
So I'm going to miss it.
If SGA does come back, I might try to watch it again.
I never got to see the Pilot episode, which would've given me more of an incentive to watch.
By the time I searched for it online, it wasn't available for free. I didn't want to pay for something I wasn't sure I was going to like.
TV series usually improve by the 2nd season and hit their stride in the 3rd. But the networks now want blockbuster ratings from the get-go, such as the rating LOST got on its pilot.
I'm horrified at how the cast found out, although now that I think about it, we shouldn't be surprised. The gang at SG-1 found out they been cancelled at the celebration party for '200'. Those folks at SyFy, they really know how to express their appreciation for the franchise that practically launched their network.
Letting the actors find out online is just the type of asshatery I'd expect of Syfy. I haven't seen much of the show, only the gatefail surrounding some of the creative decisions, but regardless it's a pretty shitty way to handle things.
I'm disappointed that they canceled the show with the prominent lesbian character. Sigh. Other than that, I stopped watching the show after the baby-killing plotline that squicked me. I was enjoying it before, but not after that...

(Obviously, this is the first I've heard about the cancellation.)

Date: 2010-12-16 09:57 pm (UTC)Jeez, SyFail. They'll pay for Sharktopus and WWF, but won't pay for Stargate?

A KICKASS CHICK?
Just one of those elements would've compelled me to watch. Hell, I survived 9 dark seasons of The X-Files because Scully hooked me in.

Ah well.

BLECH. It's a wonder anything truly worthwhile even gets produced.
