The waiter has finally left, and now it's just Daniel and Vala. She's exquisite sitting there across from him, her face aglow in the candlelight. He can't stop himself from wanting her to finally hear how he feels: "Listen—"

She leans forward just as he does, eager to tell him something. "Ah—"

Their words collide and they instantly stop, arresting a moment heavy with anticipation. He loves to hear her speak (even when she's badgering him to irritation) but he can't be sure whether what she has to say will derail his train of thought. She's rediscovered who she was before becoming a con artist and a Goa'uld host and a woman trapped in a marriage of convenience by forced pregnancy — perhaps a village lass who led a simple life?

"Oh," she breathes, seeming to realize the gravity of what he needs to say.

"Uh, lemme start," he offers, pointing to himself. If he doesn't say it now, he won't ever be able to say it.

I am a fucking stress ball right now.

LiveJournal is still reeling from the recent DDoS attacks, so a few communities that I enjoy (cms_daily, alittleofboth , dustishisstory ) created DreamWidth mirrors because of LJ's instability. stargate_summer and sos_lounge have also advised members of their existing DW mirrors.

LJ is still so effed-up that my DreamWidth mirror account didn't pick up my most recent (private) entries from the export queue. I often compose drafts of future posts and set them to Private while they're in development, so it's not Super Secret stuff, it's just important, complicated stuff that needs to be backed up until it's published, e.g. daniel_vala  updated Rules.

DreamWidth doesn't allow importing content from LJ communities (due to intellectual property considerations), so all that wonderful daniel_vala  content (which dates back to July 2005 might be lost if the next DDoS attack or a hacking exploit or a natural disaster deletes every fucking thing or destroys backup server racks. I'm looking into a way to preserve all that content, but I don't want to piss off anyone who doesn't want DW to publish their stuff.

Via a Twitter hash tag I found an LJ post about LJ's DDoS troubles, which also points to an app that archives LJ content, but I'm not sure if it handles communities. My Windoze laptop's a brick right now due to hard drive failure; my Mac can't run an executable file until I install an emulator.

FUCK MY FANDOM LIFE. Even Tumblr has been giving me error messages.

This manip kicked my ass; it's the first project on my brand new graphics tablet. I thought "Piece of cake! I can trace over my favorite pix and call it a day."

ZOMG. Wrong! Tracing involves deciding what to sketch and what to leave out. It also means learning how to hold the plastic pen and move it across the tablet surface; a much different feel from real pen & paper. It involves learning the intricacies of the software features, and how to customize the tool settings.

I wanted cleaner, sharper, vector-like lines, but got fuzzy, short strokes. Eck. Next time will be easier. I'm thinkin' Kama Sutra for my next tablet project.

BTW, Daniel's hung like a porn star. Why? Heh. I watch a LOT of porn. Drawing his naughty bits has prompted an interesting discussion among my beta-viewers about whether Daniel's circumcised. He was born in 1965, and snipping male infants was the vogue in the States, unless he was born in Greece... who knows? I drew him uncut, because I prefer that portion of male anatomy. Maybe I'll post the circumcised version for a Jack/Daniel prompt...

Anyway, off to sleep and write porn in the morning!
